1931   Wayne Andre, Trombone, b. Manchester, CT, USA. d: Aug. 26, 2003. From a musical family, his father was a saxophonist, Wayne started private lessons at age 15 and later studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New York city. 1950-'51 with Chas. Spivak; then a stint in the U. S. Army. After his service discharge, he joined the Sauter-Finegan combo in 1955, and the from July '55-Dec 56 he was a part of the Woody Herman band. At times during July 56-May 58, he played with Kai Winding. After Winding, Wayne freelanced in New York City, working in studios and playing every kind of music from Jazz and Pop, to Funk. During the '60- and '70s, he often played with the great Benny Goodman. In addition to his fine playing, he also composed. With the Oslo Big Band Orchestra (Norway), Wayne premiered "The Rise and Fall of Love", his own composition for trombone and symphony orchestra. He also enjoyed performing, and writing for, his own big band. Before his demise, he had been performing with Mike Longo's 'New York State of the Art Jazz Ensemble'.

1946   Lawrence 'Black' Ardoin, (Zydeco) Accordion/Drums, b. Duralde, Louisiana, USA He is the son of Zydeco accodionist Alphonse "Bois Sec" Ardoin (b. Nov. 16, 1916). He is also related to (Creole accordionist) Amédé Ardoin, one of the first Creole musicians to ever record.

1966   Jeff Buckley, vocals/guitar, b. Anaheim, CA, USA, d. May 29, 1997, Memphis, TN, USA. (accident. Found floating in the Wolf River, one week after he was apparently dragged under by the wake of a passing speedboat.) Jeff studied at the Musician's Institute in LA then moved to New York, where he worked for a while with rap/reggae innovator 'Shinehead'. He also helped to popularise the Sufi music of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Jeff was also an enthusiast of the Fluxus art movement, his role in one "performance" involved intimidating a plant by screaming at it, "You make me want to puke!" Jeff was the only child from a brief marriage between the then-unknown folk/Jazz singer Tim Buckley (b. Feb. 14, 1947, Washington, DC, USA, d. June 29, 1975, Santa Monica, CA USA.) and his teen-aged bride, the Panamanian Mary Guibert.. Soon after that, his mother remarried, and Jeff got the name Scott Moorehead. The second marriage lasted a couple of years, and after the divorce was settled Scott took the name on his birth sertificate, Jeffrey Scott Buckley. Tim left his wife before Jeff was born. Father and son met only once, spending a week together just two months before Tim Buckleys death. Jeff died at age 30, while his father Tim, died died of an accidental drug overdose, at age 28.

1947   Rod Clements, Bass guitar/violin/composer, b. North Shields, England, Member group: 'Lindisfarne'. In the summer of 1966, Clements and Ray Laidlaw formed the Downtown Faction Blues Band in Newcastle (england), and in the summer of 1969 renamed it 'Brethren'. Besides Clement ;and Laidlaw, the group included Jeff Sadler, Simon Cowe and Ray Jackson. Jeff Sadler (lead Guitar) left in December 1969 and was replaced by Alan Hull in the spring of 1970. 1955   Peter Cox, singer/composer, b.London, England. Member Duo group: 'Go West'. Peter and Richard Drummie (guitar/keyboard/vocals, b. March 20, 1959, London, Eng.) were a songwriting partnership before forming 'Go West' in 1982. They had been teamed, by publishers ATV Music, to write with artists such as Peter Frampton and David Grant. The team was then signed by Chrysalis resulting in a string of pop-rock hits in 1985 with "We close our eyes", "Call me", "Don't look down" and a successful debut album. Sylvester Stallone heard the latter and liked it, and they wrote "One way street" for the Rocky IV Soundtrack. They have since composed for other films, as well as recording several successful albums.
