1933 Ann Burton, Vocal, b. Amsterdam, Netherlands, d. Nov. 29, 1989, Amsterdam, Holland. née: Johanna 'Ansje' Rafalowicz. Because of her Jewish descent, she had to go into hiding during World War II. Her career really started after the liberation of Holland, but she was still plagued with personal problems. A very stormy relationship with her mother.eventually led to her being taken under the wings of a social welfare worker. She subsequently became a singer with a small Dutch combo with whom she toured abroad. During this time, she adopted "Ann Burton" as her stage name. On September 24, 1967, at age 34 and with 12 years of singing experience behind her, she entered the small Amsterdam theatre 'Het Bavohuis' and recorded the first session of her first album, "Blue Burton". To put things into perspective, at that time, the Beatles were leading Holland's "Top 10" with "All You Need Is Love". On March 7, 1969, at the 'Grand Gala du Disque' in the RAI congress-center, her album "Blue Burton" won the prestigious "Edison" prize, the highest award known by the Dutch recording world. Ann Burton had finally broken into the limelight. The very successful "Blue Burton" album was was soon followed by the albums "Ballads & Burton" (1969) and "Ann Burton Sings For Lovers and Other Strangers" (1972), and others followed. Interestingly, during the 1970s, she becomes a great star in Japan where she was second in popularity only to Ella Fitzgerald. She recorded in Tokio, and after that, in New York. A fatal disease caused her demise in 1989, at age 56.

However, musicians will best remember his as a found member of 'The Firehouse Five Plus Two' where he was best heard on such recordings as "Oh Sister Ain't That Hot", and "Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight".
