Uri first studied piano privately with Bernard Peiffer, and later attended the University of Pennsylvania where he studied music composition with George Rochberg and George Crumb. Among the men with whom he has played are Philly Joe Jones, 'Bootsie' Barnes, Hank Mobley, Odean Pope, Johnny Coles, Grover Washington, Jymmie Merritt, and Mickey Roker. Caine has since become a mainstay in both the Jazz and Classical music scenes. He has received commissions from The Beaux Arts Trio, the Vienna Volksoper, The Seattle Chamber Players, Relache, and the Basel Chamber Orchestra. In September 2003, Caine was the Director of the Venice Biennale for Music where he also premiered his new work "The Othello Syndrome". Recent performances have included playing the Diabelli Variations with the Cleveland Orchestra (Feb/ 2004). He has performed at many classical festivals including The Salzburg Festival, Munich Opera, Holland Festival, Israel Festival, IRCAM, and Great Performers at Lincoln Center. Caine has also worked in Jazz groups led by Clark Terry, Sam Rivers and Barry Altschul, Don Byron, Terry Gibbs and Buddy DeFranco, Dave Douglas, Rashid Ali, Arto Lindsay, the Woody Herman Band, the Enja Band, Annie Ross, Global Theory and the Master Musicians of Jajouka. He has performed at many jazz festivals including The North Sea Jazz Festival, San Sebastian Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival. Vittoria Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, JVC Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival.
